Welcome

The Bowman Sustainable Land Development Graduate Program at Virginia Tech offers interdisciplinary training and research opportunities to advance sustainable land development. Students in our graduate program work closely with our faculty and industry partners. The program is built for customized learning, where students learn to apply principles of sustainability and engineering design to meet community, regional, and global societal needs.

Hokie Vision

Students meet design project mentors

We recognize sustainable land development involves knowledge and skills that span multiple disciplines within and outside of civil and environmental engineering. Our program fosters interdisciplinary learning. We offer a number of elective courses for students to explore how sustainability, planning, and engineering design work together in multiple ways and through multiple course options.

Check out recent news and highlights about the SLD graduate program. We post frequently about updates to the program, opportunities to connect with SLD, and highlights from our graduate students.

The Land Development Design Initiative (LDDI) is a collaborative effort between the Via Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering and industry practitioners to improve land development design education and to increase student awareness of land development design as a career path. Students enrolled in the Bowman Sustainable Land Development Graduate Program have numerous opportunities to engage with industry professionals through the program’s affiliation with the LDDI.
