Introduction

Welcome to the Bowman Sustainable Land Development Graduate Program at Virginia Tech. We recognize sustainable land development involves knowledge and skills that span multiple disciplines within and outside of civil and environmental engineering. We have designed the Master’s degree to foster this type of interdisciplinary thinking.

The program is unique within the Department, and nationally, because it opens up opportunities for students to explore how sustainability, planning, and engineering design work together. You will graduate ready to contribute to conceptual design, comprehensive planning, grading, erosion and sediment control, and stormwater management processes. Just as important, you will also be able to articulate to clients the effects of particular types of development on transportation systems, utility systems, social-economic systems, and environmental systems. You will learn about the most recent science of sustainability, be exposed to unique projects and case studies, and be mentored by faculty and industry members to help you develop a unique set of skills to contribute to the sustainable land development industry.

To learn more about the program see our About SLD page and our News and Highlights. If you are interested to learn more about SLD please contact the program coordinator.
